Yeogang striker elated of two goals, first ever on Asian soil
YEOJU, Rep. of Kor. - Yeogang striker A.E. Michalak made a lively start Saturday firing in two shots that helped the
tenth graders possibly beat some of the twelfth graders in football at the Sinjeop-ri playing field of Yeogang Godeung Hakgyo. Art, given to a nasty cold and
whose first strike marked the first ever on Asian soil, could hardly contain his excitement. "This is what the
Premiership is all about: Guts, determination, and a generous dash of goals," he said of the thrill of Saturday's milestone.
It was the catalyst for a spell of sustained tenth grade pressure, with both clubs brilliantly managing
to forget the final score because of overwhelming joy.
The twelfth graders were guilty of slack defending against Art and his eight, perhaps nine, shots on goal (only four of which
were remotely on target). "Wow, he really kicks like an American," quipped twelfth grade sweeper Kim Gu-cheon after Art's corner pitifully struck behind the net.
Everyone played with renewed hope after Art stopped tripping [over nothing] during the
fiercely contested first 45 minutes, and it took fine tutoring by Art's coteacher Mr. Kim Ju-wan to keep
him from kicking the ball a radian off course, back to his team's keeper, or completely out of the playground and
into traffic.
